Difficult weeks for SV Rot-Weiss Merl

General

After a very successful start to the season and temporarily taking the lead in the Verbandsliga, the Merler women had to settle for one point in the past two games.

After the victory in the district cup, the women from Meckenheim had a few weeks off for the time being. This longer break came very right, because some women had to fight with minor injuries and so could cure themselves completely.

The coaching team and the team were aware that the games on 23.10; 30.10. and 06.11. would not be easy and they should be right.

The first defeat of the season took place on home turf

On 23.10. the Merler women met the women of SV Allner-Bödingen. They have set themselves the promotion to the regional league as their goal for the season. The first 15 minutes of the game went to the home team from Merl. They created clear scoring chances, but were not accurate enough at the last moment. After that, Allner took the game and dominated from then on, but the women from Merl held against it and took the lead in the 27th minute after a free kick. This lead was surprising but not completely undeserved because of the first 15 minutes.

Motivated second half of the guests

In the second half of the game Allner showed all their class. For 45 minutes they dominated the game, created scoring chances and were quicker to the ball in individual situations. Although the women from Merl countered at regular intervals, none of these attacks resulted in a good scoring chance and so the game turned. Goals in the 62nd and 77th minutes turned a 1:0 into a 1:2. Merl fought back to the best of their ability against defeat, but Allner defended with concentration.

In conclusion, the better team won the match and thus deservedly took the lead in the league standings.

The upcoming away game was 130km away

Last weekend was another difficult game. SV Waldenrath-Straeten welcomed the women from Merl. The unfamiliar surface (grass) should be a challenge for the women from Merl, who are usually at home on artificial turf. Unfortunately, this was already evident in the second minute when a long ball was underestimated and ultimately landed in the goal - 1:0 for Waldenrath-Straeten. But the women from Merl did not let this lose their cool. Already in the 9th minute, the equalizer fell. An input from the right side was lupft by direct shot over the Torhüterhin, which stood too far in front of her own goal. - 1:1!

After the equalizer, the Merler women were the team that dominated the game, but the last bit of luck was missing in the finishes. For example, shortly after the equalizer, a header from a promising position was put over the goal.

Balanced game after the break whistle

After the halftime break, the neutral spectator saw a lively back and forth, as well as many contested situations. Both teams could have scored the opening goal, but it did not fall and so the teams parted with a fair 1:1.

Although the draw is only one point from two games, but due to the performance of the opponents, as well as their own weaknesses, the Merlerinnen are happy with the results.

Already next weekend, the next difficult game against the women from West Cologne, these have with 24 goals scored in 7 games and only 7 goals against the best goal ratio in the league. An exciting game is expected at the Gerhard-Boeden-Straße! CURENTIS wishes SV Rot-Weiss Merl every success.
